Macquarie University is known as the largest academic library
in northern Sydney, and is home to all students studying at the campus. The library
was opened in 2011, and consists of 5 floors, each having different access systems
for students to use. There are many facilities which students have access to,
which includes booking a computer for personal study, printing machines, quiet
rooms, and presentation pods, as well as other services. Furthermore, there are
over 200 computers for use in the library for students studying their undergraduate
or post graduate degrees. Students also have the chance to access the free WI-Fi in the library, as well as all the library’s extensive collection of
novels, magazines and textbooks.
Macquarie University was also the first university in
Australia which installed an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). It
consists of computer-controlled systems which automatically retrieves small components
of storing items, and around 80% of the physical collection is stored in ASRS.
Students have the chance to borrow books and other resources
for their studying purposes, as well as booking a computer, which is located on
levels 1 and 2. Using a computer in the campus requires students to log in
through their One ID details. As you can log in, a student can use a computer
for 2 hours maximum, with multiple sessions in a day. This can allow students
to continue with their work on the computers in the library. If computers are
not a choice to many students, you can also choose to borrow a net book
computer, which can be used for a maximum of 3 hours. Furthermore, if you think
you want to charge your laptop or have a place to lock your laptop don’t worry,
don’t despair, Macquarie University has lockers too, in the library.
