Macquarie theatre is the most well known theatre in the campus and the largest in Macqaurie University. Macqaurie theatre underwent a significant refurbishment in late 2011, which has transformed from a traditional theatre to a more modernised theatre. The overall estimated project was valued at around $7.5 million dollars.

The refurbishment project was commenced by Federal Government Teaching & Learning Capital Fund (TLC). They kindly granted $4.23 million dollars, while the other $3.27 million dollars was provided by Macqaurie University. Refurbishment included things like:

• Improved acoustics
• Updated audio visual systems
• New active learning space
• New and identifiable entry and lobby space 
• New toilet amenities
• Lift and more equitable access to the theatre 
• New seating 
• New roof
• New plant and service and landscaping 

Macqaurie Theatre is the largest theatre on campus. Due to the refurbishment Macqaurie theatre not only can accumulate maximum Macqaurie University students, but has also significantly improved the teaching opportunities and as well as the conditions for all of Macqaurie University students and teachers.
